Alaska
I recently returned from a trip to Alaska on business and was hoping to get some great outdoor shots and a see the Northern Lights while I was there. I was working in Anchorage but the weather did not cooperate while I was there. Seems it was the warmest it has been in 40 some odd years. The Iditarod was to begin the week I was there but was moved to Fairbanks because of the warm weather and lack of snow. Although my expectations were high I did manage some shots during none working hours. Photography is not always about bright sunny days. Drizzly overcast weather is what I had. I hope you like these photos.
Images 5322 and 5324 are inbound to Anchorage just south of Anchorage, post processing was slightly different on each. Next, the Seward Highway hugs the dramatic shorelines of Turnagain Arm, arguably one of the most beautiful stretches of highway in America going from Anchorage to the port of Seward. Chugach State Park's 3000-foot mountains jut up on either side of the water. Images 5340, 41, 43. 47,53,& 58 were taken late one evening just before dusk on this road. The drive was overcast but still dramatic with the last two looking out at Chicaloon Bay on your way to the Bering Sea, you can see the ice floating even though it was unseasonably warm. The moose image was just on the was to Wasilla and struck me as funny because I did not see any wildlife. The next images 5404, 06, 09 & 16 were taken just north of Anchorage at dusk. It may look like mud but I believe its a combination or ice and mud and not save to tread on. Finally I took a short hike in Kincaid Park just out side Anchorage the last day before my flight out. hope you enjoyed the shots. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get more. My expectations very were high but the weather and having to work didn't help.
